Dirty Dancing

The History of Dirty Dancing

Throughout civilization, people have continually tried to express themselves in a sexual manner through such dancing methods as belly dancing, classical ballet and ballroom dancing, as well as many other dancing forms. Some people believe that this is a human's natural animal instincts coming out, but others don't believe that. For those people, it also might be just young people trying to shock the older generations.

Erotic dancing can be traced back as far as the Egyptians, and possibly even farther. A lot of modern erotic dances such as belly dancing and hip hop ballet are based on ancient dances. The Egyptians used erotic dances in their spiritual rituals, specifically in fertility ceremonies. According to the Egyptians, during these dances the priestesses would "become" whatever goddess they were dancing for, usually Het Heret, Sekhmet, Bast, Nuit, and Aset. Then when the priests or other men slept with them, they were basically sleeping with a goddess. In many cases, these erotic dances were accompanied by the massive consumption of alcohol.

Couples wishing to conceive would visit these temples while the dances were going on, in hopes of becoming more fertile during that time. Gradually, such practices in Europe and civilized nations stopped over the years, mainly due to the Christianization of the modern world, and other factors. However, erotic dances were still done in private and in certain select underground places. Still, the erotic dance began to regain popularity by the end of the 1700 and 1800s, resurfacing as strip clubs. The first strip tease began in France. The lady stripping pretended to be bothered by a flea, and had to take her clothes off to find it.

These ancient dances have evolved to the dances of today. Over time, a dance that might once have been considered erotic no longer is, because people become used to them. It is amusing to think about how such dances as ballroom dancing, Salsa, classical ballet, and the waltz have been considered dirty dancing at one point. In truth, what is actually a dirty dance is really up to the viewer. Most ballet school environments now teach these "erotic" dances. For the most part, any dance that imitates sexual moves will be considered an erotic dance. The idea of erotic dancing has always been a popular theme with people. There are tons of movies that focus on dirty dances, or just about dancing in general. Really though, any dancing person can be seen as being sexual because they are comfortable with their bodies and move them confidently.

Dirty dancing has always been a popular topic. People really enjoy watching someone move their body in a graceful and skilled manner. Although many people wish to be as graceful as a ballet dancer, it really takes a lot of skill to be a good dancer. But that is really part of the fun, knowing that a regular person can never dance as good as the professional dancer.

Today's Tip On Ballet

Are you at a point where you believe that reality television cannot sink any lower? If this is true then you probably haven't been watching Dancing with the Stars. This ballroom dancing show, just like American Idol, is a spin-off show from a series in Britain. Despite this similarity, this show is changing the face of reality T.V. by showing adults and children alike that ballroom dancing can be cool and you don't have to be promised a million dollars to have fun; sometimes a shiny trophy will suffice.
