The Dance

It's All About The Dance

Has your child been bitten by the dance bug? For whatever reason, children all over the world seem to be susceptible to the graceful movements of ballet dancers, and as little as one look has them infected for life. The pink frilly tutus and the natural beauty of the dancers attract them like bees to honey. Fear not, for one look into your local ballet class studio will show you that you are not alone.

Although ballet emerged centuries ago as a dance interpretation of fencing it has become much more refined through the years. The techniques developed and used in ballets now have a strong influence on many areas of modern dance, including ballroom dancing and even new interpretations, such as hip hop ballet. Popular T.V. shows such as "So You Think You Can Dance" are consistently filled with contestants who have or are still attending ballet school. Some even go on to teach dancing styles of their own.

In fact, with so many options available to the aspiring dancer, it isn't very surprising that dancing seems to attract people from so many different walks of life. For some, this is not only an obvious extension of personal expression, but a way to a much better life. Is it any wonder why little girls (and boys) find themselves drawn to the beauty of dance in a world that sometimes seems so drab and harsh in comparison? Give a child a pair of ballet shoes and access to some basic classes and they are on the way to their own private dream come true, regardless of whether they become famous, world renowned dancers or not.

Centuries ago, ballet emerged as the dance interpretation of fencing. It has become much more refined over the years and has gone on to have a strong influence on most of today's modern dance techniques. In fact, newer types of dancing, such as hip hop ballet owe much to classical ballet, as does the more popular ballroom dancing. There are so many options for the modern dancer that it is easy to see the attraction that pulls so many into its grasp. While dancing takes hard work and serious commitment, it provides the promise of fame and fortune for those with talent and drive. Many aspiring dancers today see popular T.V. shows, like the hit "So You Think You Can Dance," as their ticket to the success that most people today only dream about. Making it can mean going on to choreograph a style all your own or simply to perfect the works of others. Anything is possible and chances for success are open to people from all walks of life.

Find out if your child has what it takes. Today, the opportunities to get into dance are just as plentiful as the reasons why people are attracted to it. The dance could be your child's dream come true or the making of a lifetime of memories. However, you will never know if you are raising the next Evelyn Cisneros or Mikhail Baryshnikov unless they have the opportunity to try.

Today's Tip On Ballet

Are you at a point where you believe that reality television cannot sink any lower? If this is true then you probably haven't been watching Dancing with the Stars. This ballroom dancing show, just like American Idol, is a spin-off show from a series in Britain. Despite this similarity, this show is changing the face of reality T.V. by showing adults and children alike that ballroom dancing can be cool and you don't have to be promised a million dollars to have fun; sometimes a shiny trophy will suffice.
